About

Choose well, Be well

°®¶¹´«Ã½'s B-Healthy: Healthy Campus Initiative originated with President Harvey Stenger's strategic planning Creative Activities and Research Road Map Team in 2012, and is based on the concept of making "°®¶¹´«Ã½ the healthiest campus". A cross-divisional committee was convened through the Division of Student Affairs with the goal of integrating student health and wellness into °®¶¹´«Ã½'s educational mission. The committee evolved into a department in the fall of 2023, expanding its reach, services and programs for students, faculty and staff.

Our vision

The premier public University for innovation in campus and community health and well-being.

Our mission

To cultivate a culture and environment of health and well-being that is supportive of individuals and groups in pursuit of their optimal potential.

Health and wellness defined

There are many acceptable variations of definitions for these terms. At °®¶¹´«Ã½ University, we work to create definitions of health and wellness that our campus community can get behind and use unilaterally, to speak a common language.

Health is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, but an individual's dynamic state of being that leads to resilience and longevity.

Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making a choice that influences quality-of-life outcomes.

Dimensions of wellness model

B-Healthy: Healthy Campus Initiative has adopted an nine-dimension model of wellness to illustrate the interconnectedness of the many aspects of living and how, together, they contribute to a healthy existence. The National Wellness Institute notes that applying a wellness approach can be useful in nearly every human endeavor as a pathway to optimal living. Consistent consideration and use of this model helps streamline intervention efforts and evaluative measures.

The nine dimensions of the wellness model are:
