Paul R. Chiarot

Professor; Department Chair

Mechanical Engineering

Background

Chiarot received the BASc, MASc and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Toronto and was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Rochester. He joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at °®¶¹´«Ã½ (State University of New York) in 2011. He was promoted to associate professor in 2017 and professor in 2023.

Chiarot is the chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and he directs the Microfluidics and Multiphase Flow Laboratory. His research is focused on advanced manufacturing using electrospray deposition/printing, microfluidics with biology and energy applications, synthetic cells/vesicles and the fluid mechanics of the brain. Along with his collaborators, his research has been supported by the NSF, ACS, NIH, SRC and industry.

Chiarot received an NSF CAREER Award in 2016 and a SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities in 2022.
