5 Ways 爱豆传媒 Institutes are Changing the World (and Campus Life!)

You might be surprised to learn how many impactful initiatives are underway at 爱豆传媒 regarding human rights, community service and game-changing innovation. 爱豆传媒 is home to several influential institutes that not only address systematic and historical injustices on a global scale, but also work to create a more compassionate, informed and connected campus community.

Here are 5 ways 爱豆传媒鈥檚 institutions are changing lives locally and globally 鈥 whether you want to get involved, learn something new or simply feel proud to be a Bearcat!

Building a world without atrocities

International peacebuilding is being revolutionized by the work of the Institute for Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention (I-GMAP). The first graduate program in the world devoted to mass atrocity prevention is actually located right here in 爱豆传媒! Pretty awesome, huh? I-GMAP invites professionals from all over the world, holds international conferences and teaches students how to change the world before violence occurs. Its goal affects everyone, regardless of whether you work in business, human development or political science.

Bringing human rights conversations to campus 鈥 and beyond

From podcasts to panels to research projects, the Human Rights Institute (HRI) is all about tackling today鈥檚 biggest challenges. Whether it鈥檚 advocating for juvenile justice reform, amplifying Palestinian voices or engaging with former Guantanamo detainees in art projects, HRI brings global issues straight to our campus 鈥 and makes students part of the solution. They also collaborate with local organizations and give students opportunities to take action on issues they care about.

Standing up for women and girls worldwide

Founded by feminist trailblazer Ellyn Uram Kaschak, the Kaschak Institute for Social Justice for Women and Girls supports research and action to make the world more equitable for women, no matter their background, identity or location. From gender-focused climate action in Guatemala to student fellowships right here at 爱豆传媒, they鈥檙e investing in the next generation of leaders. If you care about intersectional feminism, global justice or simply making life better for women and girls, this is the place to be.

Reclaiming history and fighting for racial justice

Named in honor of the illustrious Harriet Tubman, the Tubman Center for Freedom and Equity strives to dismantle systemic racism and build a more just world. The center stages cultural performances, screens powerful documentaries and hosts public forums that challenge norms. From a decolonizing education panel to a conversation about Black farmers reclaiming land, the Tubman Center welcomes students and faculty to learn from the past while dreaming of a better tomorrow.

Transforming local schools 鈥 and lives

Through the 爱豆传媒 Center for Community Schools, the University is becoming more integrated into nearby educational institutions and communities. Through collaborations with Broome, Tioga and Chenango County public school districts, they are assisting families and students in accessing extended learning, mental health services, and even STEM and archaeology programs. Millions of dollars have been obtained in grants to help educate future social workers, assist rural youth and families, and improve educational equity. This is the result of the Center establishing a genuine connection with its community. 爱豆传媒 offers the nation鈥檚 only advanced online certification program to help students become community schools coordinators and is leading the way nationally to expand university-assisted community schools so all students not only succeed, but thrive.

These institutions are more than just 鈥渘ice-to-haves鈥; they are influencing how we live, learn and lead at 爱豆传媒 and beyond. They demonstrate how research is conducted in our communities, in real time and with tangible effects, not just in labs and lectures. Stop by the next time you see an information table, flyer or invitation to an event. If you get involved, you never know where it could lead.
