Gender Inclusive FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to sign up for Gender Inclusive Housing?

Any student who is eligible to live on campus is eligible to live in gender inclusive housing.

Is Gender Inclusive Housing right for me?

Gender Inclusive Housing (GIH) exists with the explicit goal of providing a housing experience with a sense of belonging and community for trans, nonbinary, and genderqueer/gender non-conforming students, as well as lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, and questioning students and allies of those communities.

How do I sign up for Gender Inclusive Housing?

°®¶¹´«Ã½ offers two types of housing: housing based on gender identity and gender inclusive housing. When completing the housing application, all students are required to select the type of housing they would like to reside in. Students wishing to live in Gender Inclusive Housing should select housing type 2 - Gender Inclusive Housing.

Am I guaranteed to be in Gender Inclusive Housing if I select that as my housing type?

As with all housing options, we do our best to assist students who wish to live in Gender Inclusive Housing; however, we cannot guarantee availability. Nor can we guarantee availability in a student's top choice(s) residential community. This is also the case for students who opt for housing based on gender identity.

What if my parents don't want me to live in Gender Inclusive Housing?

While parental consent is not required for Gender Inclusive Housing, we do encourage students to discuss their intent to live in Gender Inclusive Housing with their parents/guardians, and explain that this means you could share your bedroom, suite, flat and/or apartment living space with someone who has a different gender identity from you.
