Provost's Award for Faculty Excellence in Community-Engaged Scholarship

Nature of the Program

The Provost's Award for Faculty Excellence in Community-Engaged Scholarship honors °®¶¹´«Ã½ faculty who have demonstrated through their scholarship an exemplary commitment to community engagement that helps to create meaningful change through community-engaged research or creative activity. Community engagement describes the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.

Criteria used in selection

Accomplishments worthy of recognition for this honor include, but are not limited to:

  • Research or creative activity that demonstrates a collaborative process between the faculty member and community partner (local, regional/state, national, global) that is mutually beneficial, reciprocal and sustainable
  • Research or creative activity that facilitates positive change and/or has significant impact on societal problems or issues informed by active engagement with community partners
  • Research or creative activity that results in peer-reviewed publications; reports to local, national or international agencies; or formal presentations that advance general knowledge or improve practices within community engagement
  • Research or creative activity about community engagement within the curriculum

Eligibility

Full-time, tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty from across the disciplines are eligible for the award. Candidates must have completed three academic years of full-time service at °®¶¹´«Ã½. Individuals serving in part-time or visiting capacities are ineligible for the award. Faculty, students and staff are all encouraged to nominate award candidates. Self-nominations are also welcome.

Nomination checklist

Required:

  • Nomination letter, maximum two pages, speaking to selection criteria
  • Statement from nominee (if not a self-nomination) of 300-500 words
  • Curriculum vitae of nominee

Optional:

  • Up to three letters of support from administrators, colleagues, students, community partners
  • Additional support materials such as publications, technical reports, presentations, news or community partner feedback

Deadline

Completed nomination packets must be submitted electronically by the dean's office of the nominee's school/college to the Center for Learning and Teaching at clt@binghamton.edu no later than Friday, April 18, 2025. Selection committee

A selection committee of °®¶¹´«Ã½ faculty, staff from the Center for Civic Engagement, and possibly community members, will review nominations and make one recommendation to the provost.
