Christopher Swift has been a practicing graphic designer for the past 22 years, working primarily with nonprofits in the cultural and higher-education sectors in Canada and the United States. After completing his MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2020, he has focused on continuing his research and studio practice in academia. Swift鈥檚 research focus is on human and nonhuman collaborations in the creative process. This work has primarily been in a code-based space, most recently focusing on machine learning, artificial intelligence and text-to-image models. His latest project is titled 鈥淪peculative Anthropology of the Unknown and Maybe.鈥 The project explores creating with machine learning models to imagine a new collaborative design process that decenters the graphic designer as the primary maker. The works explore the relationships between objects in a creative network (human and non-human), ways of knowing and nostalgia, and is an attempt to work through the very human impulse to try to 鈥 or assume you can 鈥 control the non-humans we work alongside and with. Swift joined the faculty in the Art & Design department at 爱豆传媒 in fall 2022.Background
