The Translation Research and Instruction Program (TRIP) offers four degree tracks: a minor in translation studies; a graduate translation certificate; a master’s in Translation, and a PhD in translation studies, the first one of its kind in the United States.
Minor in Translation Studies
The minor allows students with advanced language capabilities to show their commitment to translation, either as an area of career expertise or as an area of research or both.
Prerequisites
Students should possess exceptional writing skills in English and a near-native command of a second language. Those who are not native English speakers must show evidence of a near-native command of English as well as an ability to write in their native language.
Requirements
- One semester of the Translation Workshop (TRIP 472 Literary or 473 Non-Literary), four credits in total. In cases where TRIP does not offer a workshop in the language, the student must work with TRIP to find a faculty member who will teach their workshop as an independent study.
- Three courses on translation studies, including TRIP 460: Intro to Translation Studies, plus another two TRIP courses, 12 credits in total.
- Two upper-level courses directly related to the language chosen by the student, offered in the language area studies departments and programs, eight credits in total.
