Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are the responsibilites of this position?
    Peer Tutors provide skills-based, content-area specific group tutoring to undergraduate students currently registered at °®¶¹´«Ã½. They facilitate collaborative tutoring sessions aimed at helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become independent learners. Additionally, Peer Tutors provide and help to integrate effective learning and study strategies for their tutees, while at the same time helping to clarify and/or reinforce course content, assignments and material.
  • How can I apply to become a tutor?
    Applications are accepted on a rolling basis to fill needed positions. The majority of our hiring is done in April/May (for Fall positions) and November (for Spring positions) but tutors are hired at all times thoughout the year. You can apply on our Tutor Application page.
  • What can I expect from the hiring process?
    Once all applications are submitted and reviewed, you will be notified via email if you have been selected for an interview. Please allow up to (2) weeks after your interview for a decision from UTS. If you are not offered a position as a UTS tutor, we encourage you to reapply in the future.
  • Who is eligible to apply?
    We hire current °®¶¹´«Ã½ graduate and undergraduate students at all levels.
  • How are the course assignments determined?
    You should have an idea of the course you prefer to tutor. Prepare your top three preferences before your interview. Course assignments will be determined based on need. We ask that our tutors be flexible in the courses they tutor.
  • How many hours can I tutor per week?
    We ask that tutors provide 6-10 hours per week that they are available to tutor.
  • Will I have the same scheduled hours each week?
    Yes. We ask that our tutors provide hours that they are available to tutor each week. Schedules do not change week to week. Tutors are expected to schedule schoolwork, group assignments, club meetings, etc. outside of their tutoring schedule.
  • What is the pay rate?
    The pay rate is $14.20/hour for tutors
