    The English Language Institute has completed a small series of webinars for new and prospective students. Although the Webinars focus on new undergraduate students, we believe that graduate students can benefit from them as well.   • Course Listings

    Currently Offered: 

     EML 725 Oral Communication for Professional Purposes: This course helps graduate students adjust their accent for clearer speech by learning specific features of English pronunciation and giving professional presentations and allows them to focus on presentations in their field. The course is offered every Fall and Spring semester for variable credit (1-4 credits depending on the Visa needs of students) A P/F grade is given.

    Not offered on a regular basis: 

    EML 715 Advanced Speaking and Listening Comprehension:  This course is designed to improve ESL students' listening and speaking abilities. Instruction and practice in understanding classroom lectures and discussions are provided. In addition, students work on improving their pronunciation and their ability to express complex ideas in both classroom discussions and formal oral presentations. This course is a variable credit course, pass/fail. Evaluation is based on listening tests and summaries, oral presentations, and class participation. This course is appropriate for first-year students. The course is offered for variable credit (1-4 credits depending on the Visa needs of students) A P/F grade is given.


    EML 720 Writing for Professionals: This course helps non-native English speaking graduate students gain confidence in their written academic work. Students learn strategies for organizing, writing, editing and presenting academic papers. Variable credit (1-4 credits depending on the Visa needs of students) with a P/F grade is offered.


    GRD 575 Developing International Scholars:  This course is sponsored by the Provost’s office. Students do not pay for it, and they also do not get credit. However, they must register for the course and will receive a P/F grade. In order to pass, they must attend the required number of classes over the semester. This course seeks to improve pronunciation skills as well as interactive teaching methods, discussion facilitation and other skills expected to be used in an American college classroom context.

    Our ELI Tutors can help you with your ELI coursework, understanding an assignment in another class, writing, pronunciation, and so much more.

  • ELI Conversation Pairs Program
  • ELI Conversation Circles

    The are developed and managed by our English Speaking Assistants (ESAs) each semester. The circles are themed discussions open to both native and non-native English speakers at °®¶¹´«Ã½.

  • Academic Honesty
