Lithium Battery and Device Information

E-Transportation Device Registration

E-Transportation devices must now be registered, please view the link on the survey below:

The registration is free and only includes electronically powered bikes and scooters. Passenger vehicles and ADA Mobility devices are excluded.

Lithium-Ion batteries are found in many consumer devices today due to their small size, power output and versatility. However, in some cases, lithium-Ion batteries may become reactive with their environment and start a fire.

°®¶¹´«Ã½ is investing heavily in emerging energy storage technology related to Li-ion batteries. While our researchers are busy creating the future energy solutions, consumer grade lithium batteries are plentiful and present hazards the University must manage.

To best prevent Lithium-Ion Battery related fires, EH&S urges the community to take CHARGE:

  • Choose certified products with the nationally recognized UL safety standard
  • Handle with care, using only the charger recommended by the manufacturer
  • Always stay alert for warning signs such as swelling, hissing, or odors from the battery
  • Recycle batteries and devices properly be sending them to approved disposal locations
  • Get out quickly if there's a fire, pulling the pull station and then proceeding immediately to the nearest exit
  • Educate others about battery safety!
