Human Factors & Ergonomics in Design & Production Operations - Live Virtual Course

This course has been cancelled and will be rescheduled.

Instructor: Dr. Brian Galli
Date: TBD
Time: 11:30 am - 1:30 pm (2 hours per day)
Delivery: Live Virtual on Zoom
Who can take this course: The course is approved for 6 professional development hours (PDH) for professional engineers and is also open to all professionals, faculty, staff and students.

Credentials: You will earn a Micro-credential in Ergonomics Foundations and receive the Ergonomics Foundations Badge if you complete and pass the course assignment which will be available at the end of the course.  Professional Engineers will receive a certificate with 6 Professional Development Hours.

ABOUT THE COURSE

This course will highlight the value that human factors and ergonomics can add to the design process as well as the production operations. Students will learn the basic concepts of human factors (also known as human factor engineering) and ergonomics as well as the commons tools, terms, and concepts used in both methodologies. Students will be exposed to how to integrate human factors and ergonomics principles into design and development operations and as well as the best practices and effective tools for using these principles in the manufacturing and production operations.

The course will discuss the reasoning for using human factors and ergonomics, the benefits it can provide the design and production operations, but also common barriers towards using human factors and ergonomics in these settings; best practices will be shared to help the students understand how to effective use human factors and ergonomics tools and principles in their work environments.

In addition to didactic components, the course will use case studies, exercises, and discussion in order to deliver the material in the most effective manner and to make the seminar an interactive session.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand the role of ergonomics in design and production operations.
  • Understand tools to manage and plan for ergonomics.
  • Understand human error and how it relates to ergonomics.
  • How to account for human error in your design and production operations.
